CMOS battery flat. 2. When I turned it back on, it showed the error message that sent me to the ‘set the date' screen. You should take this to an authorized repair shop and have them to fix it. i replaced the cmos battery and it made no >difference. A Pentium II 233Mhz with a 5G hard drive and 192M of PC100 RAM. I'd like to avoid going to a technician if possible. Here’s the problem.
I just have to do it every time I start up (initially I get the 2 beeps and the 00161/00163 error message). I seem to recall seeing this on a couple TPs and correcting the problem by replacing the battery and resetting cmos. From there, you can disconnect the battery lead and pull it free. As for the bios update, I have read the info on the IBM website, so no worries there.

This worked for me. But now I know that I dont have to soder anything and it worked like a charm, many thx. Then I Googled it and there it was! I have to adjust the clock time, but once booted, the system works fine, with no errors.
