The drive doesn't show in Disk Management but does show as 'working correctly' in Device Manager! That probably turned the problem into a mechanical one as well, and the data recovery company said the platters became scraped. Do you have a great deal to share with the Slickdeals community? Diagnostic tools like seatools read SMART data. In short, until it's been tested for a week, successfully running an OS with no glitches, it isn't to be trusted as a data drive. I put the HDD into my old computer, hoping chkdsk would fix it again. I pulled out the HD from the enclosure. It is a 2TB Seagate "green" drive I have been using for storage for several years now.

I connected the HD directly to my motherboard and the whole system became unresponsive. It might be able to recover enough sectors to let it boot again to get some data off. So is it Getdataback for NTFS?

Scan fails because of I/O device error 1117. NOT RECOMMENDED. When speaking of files, they're not called that. Meaning, I'm now scanning the HD, but it just keeps giving me "Read disk SAMSUNG SP1614C SW10 at position XXXX failed after 10 attempts.

When I have a drive like that, I often use it just for temporary stuff, like I want to move 100 gigs from 1 computer to another, or bring a movie I entered 'no.'
