Issue with jetty: When you start the jetty server by running start.jar, just look at the logs to verify whether jetty has started successfully or not.

When Drupal_Apache_Solr_Service::ping is called it looks for the status code, does not get 200 and so ping returns false. I think Solr is unable to contact the Apache Solr server because there is no connection between them. You will be able to set this as long as you are logged in to the sorl/admin page via tomcat manager page.

Please tell what all possible reasons may cause this behavior by solr module in drupal. right ... Regarding the initial statement about localhost vs FQDN, that's a server-to-server (Foswiki-to-Solr) thing, if you're running solr on the same machine as Foswiki then the localhost restriction should be fine.
