Adobe seems to be completely deaf to this issue which is very annoying as most of the downloaded documents you need to print are pdf nowadays.I surrounded the issue by copying/pasting I uninstalled Acrobat Pro 9. Updated the PDF reader as well - no good. Either way...I threw out all Acrobat preferences (8 and 9). Check This Out

I have not had much success even finding my particular error on the web and have about run out of ideas. If you google pstopdffilter/pstocupraster err no 31000 you should be able to find it. Perhaps this workaround will be helpful for others.
