Finally did see on the web how to remove the battery, and although it was difficult with my big fingers, I was successful using a mirror, flashlight and long pair of I don't like the idea of buying a newer hp and making them richer when I have to go back to the store all the time to buy the smaller tanks. I lined the bulb housing interior with aluminum foil (yes this is a small area and no it wasn't perfect). Open the printer as if you are going to access the cartridges and disengage the support legs.
Contact me if you need to see some of the insides. Would you please send me the pics on how to dismantle the printer to get to the back side of the printer glass? I lined both bulb areas (the other person only did one bulb.

Have treid simple external/scanner cleaning with minor improvement so need to get inside! Try a flat head screw driver and wiggle it in front and you will see how to pop it off. HP OfficeJet d145 Scanner Error 4. It still works with XP and I recently got the scanner failure again.

I have a D155xi doing the same thing and I am not sure how to remove the glass. I pulled out the bulbs (which according to research do not a have replacement part number).
